Todays a huge game for the Dodgers, not only is it being aired on national television, (which can show the fans in the eastern part of the nation that the Dodgers have some of the best young talent) but were also trying not to get swept.

Joe Blanton takes the mound for the Phillies, while Hiroki Kuroda is on for the Dodgers. Today, the Dodgers need to somehow get rid of this horrific defense we have seen as of late and also need to be a little more patient at the plate (especially Russell Martin).

America's Pastime Predictions

Baseball has forever been known as America's pastime. Through the good times and bad times, baseball fans have always been their to cheer on their favorite team. This season it is no different with plenty of things to cheer and boo about. This year is sure to be one of the most eventful years ever to occur in baseball history. Whether it is the new arrivals to the game or ancient records being shattered it is sure to be an exciting season.
The home run record has always been one of the most coveted records of all time. The homerun record has been Hank Aaron's since April 8th 1974, the day in which he hit his 715Th homerun of his illustrious career. At the end of Aaron's career he had 755 homeruns a mark that seemed untouchable. This year however, we have a new and improved Barry Bonds who comes into this season with 735 homeruns, just 22 homeruns shy of breaking Hank Aaron's all time homerun record. This will be one of the most anticipated events of the season and is sure to be one marred by controversy over Barry Bond's ties to Balco.
This year it appears Boston fans have already caught on to the new baseball phenomenon sweeping the country. He is known in his homeland of Japan as Daisuke Matsuzaka, but here he is known only as Dice-K. Dice K was Boston's biggest purchase of the offseason and has already shown that he has the goods in spring training. Daisuke has a vast repertoire of pitches and is known for doing well in pressure situations. He is sure to be fun to watch as he battles the Royals in his first major league start on Thursday April 5Th.
This year we might also have to introduce a new member into the 3000 hits club as Craig Biggio try's to become the 27Th player to ever achieve that mark. Craig Biggio is just 70 hits shy of 3000. He will be starting his 20Th year in a Houston Astro uniform. Craig has always been the influence for the team having played his whole career as an Astro. This achievement is sure to be one of happiness for Craig, the Astros, and Astro fans everywhere.
As can be seen this year is sure to one of the most exciting baseball seasons of all time. Through the times of controversy and hardship though we can always be sure that the true baseball fans will always return to cheer for their favorite teams come October.

Florida's Family Repeats

The unthinkable has happened today. Just one day after April Fools day the Florida Gators have repeated as NCAA basketball champions. With a win over the Ohio State Buckeyes today they became the first team to hold Championships in both basketball and football at the same time. Ironically enough both of their championships have been won by defeating Ohio State. This repeat would not have been possible if it were not for the determination of last years players to forgo the NBA for a chance to win glory in a repeat. With this repeat the Florida Gators can write their names in the record books as the only team to ever repeat with the same starting five. The Florida Gators had the heart and support of nearly all Florida gator fans. The players even carried posters that contained every signature of the championship Florida football team as an inspiration. The key to their win over Ohio State was stopping standout freshman Greg Oden and shooting an astounding 10 of 18 from the three point line. Their offensive surge was lead by Al Horford who had 18 points. The gators usual star Joakim Noah got into foul trouble early causing other team members to step up their game and defeat the star studded Ohio State team. The championship was won not only with basketball talent, but also with heart. Some would even that this year's gator team was more then just a team it was a family.

The Deal is Done

Nearly two weeks after a very disgruntled Allen Iverson demanded a trade from the 76'ers, his wishes were answered. Today, it was announced that he would be traded to the Denver Nuggets for Andre miller, Joe Smith, and 2 future first round draft picks. This trade will pair Allen Iverson up with Carmelo Anthony who is second to only Iverson in scoring. The Denver Nuggets are not the only ones who are getting a good deal, the Philadelphia 76er's are picking up Andre Miller who is 3rd in the league in assists, along with Joe Smith who has an expiring contract, that will fit nicely into the 76er's luxury tax problems. This trade comes just 2 days after the Knicks and Nuggets brawl, which ended in Carmelo Anthony getting suspended for 15 games. I guess we will just have to wait until Anthony's suspension is over to see how Iverson and Anthony play together as a team. Until then we can just wait and see what drama unfolds as Allen Iverson leads the team while Anthony is away.

For The Love Of The Game

Its that time of year again when we need to start thinking about whether Roger Clemens will stay or go. With Andy Pettitte signing with the Yankees, will Roger Clemens follow Pettitte as he did 3 years ago or play elsewhere? It is likely that Roger Clemens might try to get the same half season deal that he got last year, which was for more money then most players make in 2 years. It was still a successful year for him in which he went 7-6 with a 2.30 era, in which he proved he still has what is takes. Roger Clemens is still one of the best pitchers in the league and could still demand high prices to pitch for the team of his choice. Roger Clemens is currently 348-178 career with 4064 strikeouts, and has posted one of the best pitching careers of all time. If Roger doesn't come back, he will still be remembered as one of the best players of all time.

When I first saw the headline that another Bengal was arrested, I laughed. Where did this idiots go to college? Florida-International? C'mon, seriously does anyone on the Bengals understand anything after seeing seven of their teammates getting arrested? Well obviously not as Deltha O' Neal was arrested for driving under the influence which makes him the 8th Bengal to be arrested since 2005. The 3 time Pro Bowler a was driving with a blood alcohol level of .10 (.8 is Ohio's limit). O'Neal will appear in court later this week. On the bright side, the Bengals play the Raiders this week.

Bonds back again

Barry Bonds signed a 1 year 16 million dollar contract yesterday with the San Francisco Giants, giving him ample time to break Hank Aaron's single season homerun record. He enters the 2007 season with 734 homeruns only 21 homeruns away from Hank Aaron's magic 755. When Bonds does break the record many questions will be raised on whether or not he deserves it, in the midst of his steroid allegations. With the ongoing talk, of the asterisk, of the steroid era by his name Barry Bonds has still decided to come back for one more year. When Bonds passes Hank Aaron their will be more boo's then cheers, because his historic moment will always be tainted by his connections to the steroid era.

Reggie Bush, New Orleans Saints RB
Status: RISING
Reggie saw his Trojans lose Saturday and made sure he used that frustration on the 49er's defense. Bush still showed he has the ability to break tackles and explode through holes when given the chance. Bush ended up with 4 touchdowns, 3 rushing and 1 receiving to lead his Saints to a 45-10 victory.

Vince Young, Tennessee Titans QB
Status: RISING
Vince Young earned his first signature NFL win by beating the Colts 21-17. He showed poise in the pocket and and leadership on the field. Young rushed for a career high 78 yards while passing for 163 yards with 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.

Matt Leinart, Arizona Cardinals QB
Status: RISING
Leinart has already passed expectations most analysts had for him as an NFL QB this year. He once again this week had a completion percentage over 60% and had a rating of at least a 100. Leinart didn't have a spectacular game, but a solid one in which he helped lead his Cardinals to a well needed win.

Jay Cutler, Denver Broncos QB
Status: FALLING
Cutler was no where near the hyped up "next John Elway" as we saw him on Sunday night. He threw 2 interceptions, one in which he threw up for grabs when getting sacked. He fumbled the ball twice, one which was recovered by the Seahawks and was no where as accurate as we saw him in Pre-Season. Cutler has a gun for an arm and great leadership on the field but this will never help until he plays the game with basic fundamentals.

DeMeco Ryans, Houston Texans LB
Status: RISING
Ryans once again stepped up for the Texans in a 23-14 win over the Raiders. DeMeco ended the day with an interception and 15 total tackles, including a sack. Ryans once again leads the Texans' defense and is 2nd in the NFL in tackles with 114 total, just 2 behind Miami's Zack Thomas.

Just when the Bengals front office thought their week was bad enough because of Reggie McNeal, they realized it got worse. Wide receiver Chad Johnson aka Ocho Cinco allegedly called New Orleans Saints' head coach Sean Payton before their game against the Saints in Week 11. Johnson asked for 6 tickets from Payton and Payton generously bought 6 tickets for Chad's family to attend the game even though it cost well over 1600 dollars. Well, its now Week 12 and Payton said he still has not received a check in the mail from Chad to repay him and is still waiting for Johnson to do that. On an interview last night, Johnson was interviewed by Bob Costas and Costas brought this subject up. Ocho Cinco quietly said "it should have been their by now."

Reggie McNeal! What you don't know who Reggie McNeal is? He's the fourth string rookie wide receiver on the Bengals who set passing and rushing records at Texas A&M. Anyway, McNeal is the 7th Bengal to be arrested since 2005 and has continued the trend of being charged with resisting arrest, that makes two in a row (first was Matthias Askew). Reportedly, McNeal was being denied entrance into a nightclub and started using profanity toward officers outside the club. The officers repeatedly told him that the nightclub was closing but McNeal continued to use his vulgar language and eventually elbowed one of the officers. I guess if your head coach Marvin Lewis you could say that your teammates learn from each other and follow their examples.

In case you have been stuck in a ditch all day, the BCS standings came out tonight and chaos is among us. Previously #4 Florida jumped over #3 USC and arguably jumped #2 Michigan. Even though this seems like a surprise, Lloyd Carr said he expected the BCS standings today to be very close and he was right, even though he wanted to be wrong. The final BCS averages were .9445 for Florida and Michigan with .9344 average. Carr has never played in a National Championship and I doubt you can get any closer to being near it. The only reason I can think the BCS voters voted Florida #2 was because they wanted to give someone else a shot at Ohio State and maybe they had a tougher schedule than Michigan. All in all, its just another thing to bother Lloyd Carr in his sleep. On the bright side, #3 Michigan will now play #5USC in the Rose Bowl.

If you think you've ever seen a blowout game, think again. Divsion III Lincoln University beat Ohio State-Marion 201-78. Yes, that's right 201-78. Licoln started the first half scoring 97 points and then scoring 104 points in the second half. Lincoln was led by guard Sami Wylie, who set a new NCAA record for three pointers made at 21. Wylie only played 23 minutes in the game but ended up with 69 points. Now that's a blowout.

The LA Times have reported the Red Sox could trade Manny Ramirez by Saturday in return for 3 Dodger prospects, including star outfielder Matt Kemp. Kemp is considered a 5 tool prospect by scouts and a future star in the MLB.

The USC Trojans Beat Notre Dame 44-24, making a stronger case as to why they should be in the BCS championship. Florida, USC, and Michigan are still battling for the chance to face Ohio in the championship.

MLB:
The Cubs picked up Alfonso Soriano and the Houston Astros managed to squeeze by and sign Carlos Lee. Even the lowly Brewers managed to swing a 6 player deal and get all star catcher Johnny Estrada. Lastly, the Angels picked up Gary Matthews Jr. and the Dodgers signed Juan Pierre to a big deal

NBA:
This week the Jazz continue to prove that their the best while improving to 12-2. The Dallas Mav's also finished off the week on an eight game winning streak that is a big improvement since their 0-4 start.

NFL:
Peyton Manning reached 3,000 yards this week as he led his Colts to a 45-21 victory over the Eagles. Jay Cutler is also rumored to be the starting QB for the Broncos next week.

Other Sports:
The Axia 3 Thanksgiving invitational was won by #3 ranked eater Patrick Boletti who devoured 4.8lbs of turkey in 12 minutes in his heated battle with Sonya Thomas. In other new Jimmy Johnson won the nextel cup in nascar.

Hi, I'm Jay Cutler, no not that Jay Cutler, thank goodness. Well, any day now my coach, coach Shanahan, will announce that I'm starting over Jake Plummer next week. Although I'm really happy to start, I feel sorry for the guy that a 23 year old like me, is replacing him. Maybe he can go get a drink with Drew Bledsoe or someone. Yeah, that would cheer him up. But now that I think about it, he does suck and is pretty much a doofus on the field. I mean come on, the guy went to freakin' Arizona State! At least I went to Vanderbilt and got a good education man. But seriously, next week's game is going to awesome. I finally get to go on the field and show the whole league why I was drafted. I already have ideas for my first touchdown pass and it involves me throwing the ball at Plummer's head, maybe it will knock some sense into the poor guy. Seriously though you better watch me play next Sunday because I'm going to lite some freakin' Seahawk feathers on fire. Peace out.

Every year we see a unknown team start off the season with a bang. This year, just like any other, their is a team that is doing just that. This team has had its ups and downs the past couple of years, with the loss of the best combo in history. When they lost Karl Malone and John Stockton their team begin to slowly fall apart piece by piece, until they found themselves at the bottom of their conference.This year we see a completely different Jazz team, that is led by Carlos Boozer. The Jazz have come out strong so far this year with a 11-1 start, their best start in team history. Do the Jazz have what it takes to win the Title this year or is this just a fluke start?

The Jazz are packed with talent this year starting with Carlos Boozer, who is is having a career year averaging 22.7 ppg and 12.7 rebounds a game. Boozer isn't the only reason the Jazz are on top. With the off season addition of Derek Fisher the Jazz get 3 point support from one of the leagues best. Derek is also a proven veteran who gives experience to this young Jazz team. This wouldn't seem to be enough, but they also get support from second year player Deron Williams, who is so far averaging 18.3ppg. With this kind of support the Jazz seem to have the talent they need to make the playoffs this year.

Though their past few seasons have been nothing but disappointment. This year has given the team new hope for the future, and possibly some new hardware to take home.This year could be the year the Jazz fans have been praying for, but we will have to wait and see how the rest of their season shapes out.

Thanksgiving Football

Miami at Detriot

Nick Saban and his Miami defense faces a Detriot team that relies heavily on their passing game and little on their rushing game, which is ranked 30th in the NFL. The only threat Detriot holds to Miami are their wide outs, Mike Furrey and Roy Williams who have both risen to production over the past weeks. On Miami's side of the ball, Joey Harrington will look to continue his play from last week, which he threw for 254 yards. Running back Ronnie Brown and wide out Chris Chambers haven't been themselves lately but will look to get their confidence back against a week Detriot defense.

Tampa Bay at Dallas

No similarities shine in this game. Dallas is coming off of their biggest win of the season while Tampa Bay is coming off just their third win of the year. Bill Parcell's couldn't be happier with the Cowboys and John Gruden couldn't be any more disappointed in his last place Bucs'. The main difference though between these two teams are their rushing games. The Cowboys average 133 yards on the ground with Marion Barber and Julius Jones sharing the load, while the Bucs' average just 91 yards a game with Carnell Williams. If the John Gruden decides to put the game into the hands of Bruce Gradkowski's, Bruce should have a tough time against the Cowboys secondary, which has only allowed 9 touchdowns all year.

Denver at Kansas City

A battle between two teams that are fighting to be on top of the AFC West. Offensively, the Broncos have looked terrible in the passing game with Jake Plummer having thrown 4 interceptions in the past 2 games. The Broncos rushing game on the other hand has improved greatly with Mike Bell, who rushed for 2 touchdowns last week. For the Chiefs, Trent Green has just got back from his concussion and will start for the second week in a row. Tight end Tony Gonzalez is still questionable for this game, which could be a huge loss for the Chiefs are offense. Running back Larry Johnson will once again look to destroy another team's defensive line. All in all, its a perfect match up to watch Larry Johnson try to avoid Denver's top notch defense.

NFL Rewind

Week 11 Rewind

Biggest Win:
San Diego 35, Denver 27.
The Chargers are now officially atop of the AFC West and have shown their ready to be considered a SuperBowl contender, even if Marty Schottenheimer is their coach. Before the Chargers prevailed last night, at one point in the game they were down 24-7, but having a back like LaDaninan Tomlinson on your team can cut that lead in a matter of minutes, which he did.

Biggest Lost:

Atlanta 10, Baltimore 24.

The Falcons have gone from a top notch team, to a team that can't seem to do anything right. The Falcon offense continues to struggle doing their 3 game losing streak, in which their highest scored game was 14 points. Atlanta remains third in the NFC South, at 5-5 and are heading into a season that could get Jim Mora Jr. out of Atlanta.

Comeback Win:
Pittsburgh 24, Cleveland 20.
After being down 10-0 going in the second half. Big Ben bounced back from throwing his 2 interceptions in the first half by throwing 2 touchdown passes in the fourth quater, including one with 32 seconds left to win the game. Finally, we can see Bill Cowher smile once again.

Upset:
Dallas 21, Indianapolis 14.
The main factor to this win is credited to Dallas's defense, who intercepted Peyton Manning twice, including one time in the endzone and the other returned for a touchdown. The Cowboys also forced Manning to fumble twice, in which one was recovered by Dallas.

MVP:
Theres no doubt that LaDanian Tomlinson is the leading MVP voter through Week 11. Hes scored 19 rushing touchdowns this year, he's scored 10 since Week 9 and with the performance he put on against the Broncos, he showed that he will not slow down, even against a top notch defense like Denver.

Baseball Bonanza

Their comes a time every year in which teams throughout the Major Leagues start to build or bolster their championship team. This time is known as the off- season, and this season like all the others has been filled with surprises. Teams who came in last and teams that came in first are picking up players left and right, which could make for an interesting season.

It is not often that we see a last place team, become the biggest spender of the off-season, but the Chicago Cubs have done just that. So far this off season the Cubs have resigned Aramis Ramirez, Henry Blanco, Wade Miller, and Kerry Wood. They also have been making an impact on the free agent market by picking up Mark DeRosa, and trading for Neil Cotts. Though no one would have expected that they would pick up the biggest free agent of the off -season. Today, the Chicago Cubs signed free agent Alfonso Soriano to a 8 year 136 million dollar contract. This was the biggest contract in team history. The Cubs haven't had a player that was feared in their lineup since Sammy Sosa, but know that they have landed Soriano, things will change.

The Chicago Cubs are not the only team that is making big deals this off season. Today the Los Angeles Dodgers picked up Juan Pierre in a five year 45 million dollar contract, that will give the Dodgers one of the fastest players in the major leagues. Pierre will be filling one of the wholes in the outfield, since JD Drew opted out of his contract. Though with these acquisitions it would appear that the National League is the only league making any big deals, but that is not true.
The New York Yankees traded Gary Sheffield to the Detroit Tigers for 3 Minor League prospects.

The free agent market is one of the best this year and one of the deepest. Teams are built during the offseason and its where you build your championship team.

Rivalry Saturday

As we inch closer to the one of the greatest rivalries of all time, your probably see "Smith vs Henne" around television. But, back when the rivalry started in 1897, the headlines were to be seen as "Saxby vs Talcott" in which Talcott led Michigan to a 34-0 victory over the Buckeyes. Since Michigan has won the first game in this rivalry, they have continued to lead the rivalry with a record of 57-39-6 against the Buckeyes. With the stakes being high this year, the game will once again decide the Big 10 winner and the team to play in the National Championship.

This years case involves a potential Heisman winner Troy Smith, versus an underrated Chad Henne at the quarterback position. While Ohio State has their ferocious defense that leads the NCAA with points scored, Michigan has their quick running back Mike Hart, who has rushed for over 1300 yards this season. On both sidelines are all caliber coaches, Llyod Carr for Michigan and Jim Tressel for Ohio State, who both shine under big games.

The big question is if Ohio State's defense can stop Mike Hart from breaking lose on the ground. Mike Hart's college career could be remembered on his performance in this game with Michigan being only 2 games away from a National Championship. Last year Hart only ran for 15 yards in a loss against the Buckeyes.

But as sport fans know, once the game clock starts ticking, its anybodys game.

Another Japanese star in the making...

Every year we see players from different countries come to America and try to make it big in Major league baseball. This year many of those players found a chance, that not only would make them heroes in their own countries, but would be able to prove themselves worthy of the Major Leagues. Players from around the world including players from around the MLB pitted themselves against each other in the World Baseball Classic, which was eventually won by Japan. In the World Baseball Classic many players now stand out in Baseball owners minds, but none stand out more then pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka.

Matsuzaka was the MVP of the World Baseball Classic, his dazzling 3-0 record, with a 1.38 era, was what carried his team to victory. These numbers are not just a fluke, Matsuzaka career record in Japan is 108-60 with a 2.95 ERA . He was 16-10 in his first season, and since then has become one of the most dominating pitchers in Japanese baseball over the past decade. The only question posed is where did this superstar come from, and how did he get so easily accustomed to the pressures of the Majors.

Daisuke first gained national support, when he lead his team to a victory in the quarterfinals of the national baseball tournament. This would seem to be just another ordinary victory, if it wasn't for the fact that he threw 250 pitches in 17 innings. The next game he recorded a save, and was becoming known for his persistence. In the last game he did the impossible throwing a no hitter to win the tournament and get the attention from all of the top scouts. Fresh off this victory he was selected by the Seibu Lions as the number one overall pick. He did not disappoint, going on to be one of the best pitchers in Japanese Baseball. He has all the makings of a good pitcher. His fastball is between 90-96 mph, and he is also known for the the infamous gyroball. Matsuzake will forever be a part of baseball in Japan.

On November 6th he finally reached the goal that so many strive for, the lions allowed him to pursue a team in the MLB. He has been scouted by nearly every baseball team, but through the bidding process the front runners are said to be, the Yankees, Red Sox,Mets, Cubs, Rangers, and the Indians. Wherever Matsuzaka lands whether its a good team or a bad team, it will be forever known that he lived the dream. He made it to the Major Leagues.

Dodger outfielder, J.D. Drew opted out of his 3 year contract with the Dodgers and has already been showed interested from the Rangers, White Sox, and Cubs. The Angels reportedly made a last minute run on Japanese star Daisuke Matsuzaka. Daisuke and his agent Scott Boras will likely hold a news conference this week to say which team he has signed with.

NCAA Football:

Former Miami coach Butch Davis is close to signing with North Carolina. The Tarheels are 1-9 under head John Bunting this year.

NFL Pick 'Em Week 10

Week 9 has gone, say hello to Week 10. The Colts remain the only undefeated team, as the Bears lost to the Dolphins 31-13. Terrell Owens sleeps during meetings but still can't concentrate on catching a ball, I think he needs more sleep. Andrew Walter is on pace for 81 sacks, which will break David Carr's record of 76 in 2002. And Shaun Alexander will miss his 6th straight game.

Why: Baltimore's superb defense won't be needed in this game, their offense will have no problem stomping over the league's worst defense, Tennessee.

Doors Open for Dodgers

With J.D Drew opting out of his 4 year contract, the doors have opened for the Dodgers. The Dodgers now have added 33 million dollars to their bank, the 33 million that was going to be paid in Drews contract over the next 2 years. Ned Colleti has already said that the Dodgers are looking for a strong bat and a solid pitcher to add to next years team and with the money they can now use, they seem to be a contendor this offseason. The Dodgers have already showed interest in signing Mark Mulder, Aramis Ramirez, Rich Aurilia, Daisuke Matsuzaka, and Jason Schimdt.

Why: Manning has done it all this year. He marched into Denver and beat the Broncos, was triumphant over Tom Brady and the Patriots, and is leading the NFL with 17 touchdowns passes and a quarterback rating of 106.0 Not bad while leading his Colts to a perfect 8-0.
Honorable Mention: LaDainian Tomlinson

Rookie of the Year: Marques Colston
Why: Colston has caught for 700 yards and 7 touchdown passes this year, not bad for a guy who was drafted in the 7th round. Colston has added fear into opponets secondary with his sharp routes and his ability to almost win every jump ball with his 6'' 4' frame.
Honorable Mention: Laurence Maroney

Defensive Player of the Year: Champ Bailey

Why: Champ has been playing like the "shut down corner" we usually see lately. In the past 5 games he has had 5 interceptions and has led his Broncos to be one of the dominant defenses in the AFC. Bailey has added 44 total tackles this season while also deflecting 14 passes.
Honorable Mention: Aaron Campman

Coach of the Year: Sean Payton
Why: Through 9 games last year the Saints were 2-6, through 9 games this year they remain at 6-2 with first year head coach Sean Payton. Payton has reassembled the Saints into a strong team on both ends of the ball, something that hasn't been done in New Orleans in a long time.
Honorable Mention: Mike Nolan

Comeback Player of the Year: Javon Walker

Why: From coming off an injury that have ruined players career to being where he is right now is amazing. He's piled up 789 total yards with 6 touchdowns this year, all while helping his Broncos remain 1st in the AFC.

Honorable Mention: Chad Pennington

Biggest Surprise of the Year: Damon Huard
Why: Going from a nobody to the 2nd best Quarterback rating in the NFL, Huard has exceeded his job as backup Quarterback, he might have even taken Trent Green's spot as starter. Huard has thrown for over 1600 yards and 11 touchdowns this year, while only throwing 1 interception.

Week 9- What I learned

Well, we were 9/14 this week in picks, but hey at least we learned something! I learned....

1. The Vikings won't be the same after the humilating loss on Monday Night Football.

2. David Garrad actually does know how to pass afterall, as he threw 3 touchdowns against the Titans.

3. Andrew Walter doesn't know how to throw a ball away, instead he justs gets sacked.

4. Mike Nolan has done one heck of a job with the Niners, who are now at 3-5 overall.

5. Terrell Owens sleeps during meetings but still can't concentrate on catching a ball. Maybe he justs needs more sleep afterall.

Can the Heat repeat?

After the Miami Heats explosive season last year they left no doubt that they were the true champions. With Dwayne Wade, Shaq, and another all-star cast of players the Heat have a good chance to repeat again this year. During the Heats first game though doubts were raised about whether or not Shaq could be a driving force for the heat this year. In his first game he was 3-10 from the field and was starting to look the part of an aging NBA star. At the age of 36 Shaq is 325 lbs and is slower then ever before. He seems to have lost his touch a little in the off season and it looks like the once dependable Shaq is now looking more like a washed out Michael Jordan.

However even with an aging Shaq, the Heat still have Dwayne Wade, Gary Payton, and Antoine Walker which would seem to be enough to put the Heat into another run for the championship. Dwayne Wade did not disappoint going 10-15 from the field. Payton and Walker on the other hand are a little rusty, but will surely be back on their game after awhile. So the question is still posed will the Heat be able to repeat?It's doubtful, their conference will be tough this year and without the addition of another key player they won't have the power to make it to another. The Heat blew that chance a few days ago when the failed to sign Jalen Rose who would have been just the offensive power they needed. The chances of success are next to none.

The Heat's conference is packed with powerful teams ready to make mince meat of their opponents. Their main worry this year will probably be the Cleveland Cavaliers who's team is lead by the young superstar Lebron James. After just barely losing to the Heat last year in the conference finals the Cav's are ready and kicking to get to the top of the conference. This year will be packed with action as the Eastern conference looks for their next champion. Expect the heat to make the playoffs, but fall short losing to the team that they edged out last year the Cavaliers. Better luck next year Heat Fans.

Sosa makes a comeback?

Sammy Sosa's career was going great. He was not only a hero on the field he was a hero to fellow kids around the world, whose only dreams were to be a ball player just like him. He played for a team that had not won the World Series since 1908. He gave that team and its fans hope for the future. He always put on a show for the fans cranking home runs out of the park during warm ups. Then came the day, the day that would change his baseball career forever. As Sosa went up to bat in the first inning on June 3rd with runners on base he hit a grounder that appeared to score a run. Something happened though when Sammy Sosa's bat broke on that grounder, it revealed a cork. The great Sammy Sosa had been caught using a corked bat, this accident would bring all of his home runs into question.

After this day Sosa was given a 8 game suspension. His career started to unravel right before his eyes. He went on to bat 288, which was a low average for him. In the years that followed all his numbers went down. This accident brought him from super stardom down to mediocrity. He began to have injury plagued seasons. Until the faithful day when Sammy Sosa finally called it quits and hung up his bat and glove.

It has been one year now since we saw Sammy Sosa step foot on a baseball field. This off season though Sammy Sosa has announced that he plans to return to baseball for the 2007 season. He returns now with his infamous corked bat incident long forgotten in the mist of baseballs steroid scandal. Sammy Sosa is only 12 home runs away from 600 lifetime, a milestone that launches him into a club that few call home. Sammy Sosa turns 37 this year and may not be well received to a team that is in contention, do to the fact that he hasn't picked up a bat or ball in 1 year. His best bet would be to go to a team that is in desperate need of a impact player. Though Sammy Sosa was leaning towards retirement, why does he want to comeback now. Well, in an interview Sosa said " I still have a lot of passion for the game and I'm in shape. I want to get 600 home runs before i say goodbye,". It can be predicted that he will probably end up with a mediocre team, like the Marlins, and bat around 260 with 20 home runs. Sammy can still be an impact player, the only thing standing in his way is whether he wants it bad enough or not.

Lakers: Rising Stars

As the Lakers enter their fourth game tonight against the Seattle SuperSonics, they begin the season 3-0 and look to be on atop of the Western Conference after tonight's game. Much has changed since we last saw the Lakers in the playoffs last year, Kobe Bryant has changed his number from 8 to 24, Phil Jackson has had hip surgery, and the Lakers actually look like a team through 3 games. The Lakers no longer look like a one man show with Kobe Bryant but are shaping up to be a team that has a variety of ways to score.

Luke Walton, who showed promise offensively in last years playoffs, scored a career high 20 points Saturday while also adding 5 assists and 8 rebounds. Lamar Odom has finally learned to set up the offense this year and is already leading the Lakers offensively, averaging 28 points a game. The Lakers offense looks strong with Walton finally settling into his shot and Odom producing points and keeping the offense poised. With both of these players taking a load off of Kobe Bryant, the Lakers will become a more balanced attack on offense with a variety of players to contribute.

Andrew Bynum and Ronnie Turiaf have provided the energy on defense while also providing offense as well. Bynum and Turiaf were limited to time last year as Chris Mihm and Kwame Brown were healthy starters. Now that Mihm and Brown are both injured, Bynum and Turiaf have stepped in with huge success.

Bynum could well be the most dangerous players on this Laker team this year. Bynum started his first NBA game Friday and scored 18 points while also grabbing 8 rebounds and 3 blocks. With Bynum's height at 7 feet, the Lakers can match up with any team down low in the NBA. Ronnie Turiaf came off the bench Friday and played 13 minutes and scored a career high with 23 points and clinched the game with 2 key back-to-back blocks. Bynum and Turiaf both provide on both of ends of the court for the Lakers and has the team feed off of their energy.

The Small Things: These Players won't be seen on the Highlights but they get they The Small Things done.

Jordan Farmar- Gets the Lakers into fastbreaks and moves the ball well.
Brian Cook- Can hit the 5 foot jumper and uses his body frame to his advantage on defense and offense.

NFL Pick 'Em Week 9

Well its officially half way through the season for the NFL and I don't think any NFL fan would have thought that eight backup quarterbacks would be starting this year, not to mention that they have almost all done a great job filling in. With that being said, here are my picks for Week 9.

Pick: Atlanta
Why: Ever since the Falcons lost to the Giants in week 6, Vick has thrown for over 500 yards and 7 touchdowns and with Detroit struggling on defense this game should be a blowout, although I am expecting a couple long balls thrown to Mike Furrey to put some points on the board for the Lions.

Pick: Baltimore
Why: The Ravens have built their style of play on defense and this week they get to prove that with cornerbacks Chris McAllister and Samari Rolle covering Chad Johnson and TJ Houshmandzadeh.

Pick: Dallas
Why: The Cowboys look like a brand new team under Tony Romo and by the looks of Bill Parcell's smile after their win against the Panthers last week, I bet he does too. With Santana Moss questionable for this game and Clinton Portis always having something bothering him, the Redskins look weak on offense.

Pick: Buffalo
Why: The Bills are struggling offensively this year with J.P. Losman not throwing the ball well but, all will change this week as they face the the Packers who rank 30th in defense. Look for a breakout game with Willis McGahee.

Pick: New York
Why: The Giants are on a four win streak and Eli Manning is looking to stomp all over David Carr's confidence just like the Titans did last week (previously posted).

Pick: Kansas City
Why: St.Louis's defense is going to be busy with Larry Johnson and Kansas City's defense will have their problems with Steven Jackson as well but I have a feeling the Chiefs will win this one with Damon Huard in the air against a weak Ram secondary.

Pick: Chicago
Why: Miami is struggling at the quarterback position and is facing the top defense in the NFL. Enough said.

Pick: New Orleans
Why: New Orleans' defense hasn't been itself lately but I'm expecting them to get back into their groove this weekend. Marques Colston will end up in the endzone this week once again.

Pick: Jacksonville
Why: Jack Del Rio officially said David Garrad is starting this week, which probably means the Jaquars are going to rely on the run with Fred Taylor and Maurice Drew in the backfield with the Titans struggling against the run.

Pick: San Francisco
Why: This is my upset of the week here. Alex Smith has gone from dud to stud and Frank Gore has finally shown the NFL what he is made of. Although the Vikings are still frustrated by an embarrasing MNF game, they will keep this game close.

Pick: San Diego
Why: Even though Shawn Merriman is a huge loss on defense for the Chargers, it won't play a factor in this game.

Pick: Denver
Why: Whether Bill Cowher decides to start Big Ben or Charlie Batch I just don't see either of them getting by Denver's top notch defense.

Pick: New England
Why: Indianapolis may have Peyton Manning but they don't have a defense. With Corey Dillon and Laurence Maroney on the ground, they both should be able to get into the redzone against the Colts' weak rush defense. If not, they can always turn to Tom Brady.

Pick: Raiders
Why: Andrew Walter may only have 3 touchdowns passes this year but look for the Raiders to get some points on the board defensively. They did that last week and beat the returning Super Bowl champs.

Carr is still one to build on...

In 2005 David Carr finished the season ranked 21st in quaterback rating with a 77.2 overall rating. Now a new year is abroad Carr and his teammates with new head coach Gary Kubiak already showing the NFL what Carr can do if he is given the chance. Through 8 weeks this season, Carr is ranked 6th among quarterback ratings with a rating of 94.3 and is ranked 1st in completions this year completing over 70 percent of his passes. Kubiak has shown very high trust in Carr throughout the season and still believes he is the one to build this Houston Texans franchise.

This week against the Tennessee Titans, Carr completed 15 of 21 passes for 113 yards with an interception and 2 fumbles which both were recovered by the Titans. On one of the fumbles, Carr dropped back in the pocket and was sacked by defensive lineman Travis LaBoy and fumbled the ball which was returned for a touchdown. Kubiak did not hesitate to pull Carr off the field and on the next possession backup quarterback Sage Rosenfels stepped in to replace him. Rosenfels ended up giving the Texans a shot at the game completing 18 of his 25 passes for 186 yards with a touchdown and interception but it wasn't enough for the Texans as they lost 28-22.

After the game Kubiak talked about Carr fumbling, “He did get hit. But when I coach a quarterback, even if you’re getting hit, you have to protect the ball." When Kubiak has coached Steve Young and John Elway, he taught them the importance of having to go through these rough times to help you have success later in your career, which they both ended up doing. "I realized that he’s tough on me, for a reason, though" Carr said. "So it’s going to make me stronger as a person." Kubiak said that Carr will start next week against the Giants and "will be back battling this week." Texan fans should realize David Carr will flourish under Gary Kubiak and could transform into one of the top performers in the NFL. The first step though is "understanding the responsibility of protecting the football", as Kubiak said.

Survey says...Tony Romo?

We all remember back in 2001 when Drew Bledsoe went down with a chest injury and in came young stud Tom Brady. Brady came into the starting role with no experience except a few snaps in 2000, but Brady still went on to win the Super Bowl that year along with 2003 and 2004 for the New England Patriots. Brady hasn't missed a start ever since he replaced Bledsoe and as we watch Tony Romo take over the Cowboys, this could just be dejavu all over again for Drew Bledsoe. As Bledsoe was benched last week for his poor play against the Giants, Cowboy fans began to wonder if Jerry Jones was going to throw this year away and look ahead for next year . Well, tonight Cowboy fans should all be convinced that this year isn't a dud and in fact, is just beginning. Tonight against the Carolina Panthers, Tony Romo who replaced Bledsoe, completed 24 of 36 passes and threw a touchdown and interception while throwing for 270 yards to beat the Panthers 35-14, not bad for his first career start. The Cowboys look like a playoff contender with Romo on the field, but just one start won't give you respect in the NFL. In the next 3 games Romo will start by facing an important divisional game against the Redskins in Washington and then head west to Arizona, to face a rattled Cardinal team. As the Romo and the Cowboys return home they face a game that could shape their playoff contention, the Indianapolis Colts. If tonight showed us that this is the the Romo we will see for the rest of the year, then it won't matter who they are playing. The Cowboys are a brand new team and a brand new franchise under Tony Romo.

So today was the last day of playoffs in my fantasy baseball league. I was playing my brother this week and the winner goes to the Championship for a shot at 160 bucks. We were heading into this Sunday night with me leading 9-6. I already began celebrating around 5pm thinking I won but then I realized he still had one player left, Jorge Posada. All he needed was 2 RBIS from Jorge to beat me and head to the 'ship. So the Yanks are playing the Red Sox and here came Jorge in the bottom of the 8th with a man on first and no outs. Once he dug into the batters box I knew he was going hit a homer, just my freaking luck. And on the second pitch Jorge hit a blast into left center, it was over, every curse word I knew went through my mind. I never beat my brother in anything in life and for once I was praying I would beat him in a useless game of fantasy baseball. So there went Jorge starting to round the bases with his little smirk like he knew some loser at home just got his fantasy team ruined because of him. As I started to curse again, I realized maybe the center fielder, Coco Crisp, had a chance to rob it. YEAH! And when Coco jumped up to the fence and robbed that home run for me, I knew I had a new hero. Coco Crisp in my new hero, and he should be. God bless you Coco, God bless you. And F-U Jorge, don't ever smile at me again.

Update: I ended up losing the Championship 10-6 to some egotistical jerk named John. Freaking hicks.
